What kind of travel documents will I need?

1. US Passport: it is required for your passport to be valid for at least 6 months past the date you plan to return. Example: if you plan to travel from June 10-20, your passport would need to expire on December 21 of that year.
2. Tourist visas are granted for free from customs in Lima.

What will my team be doing?

1. Groups working with AMOR Proyecto will be participating in medical/dental outreach at the clinic at Kilometer 8, as well as at outlying villages. The groups are typically made up of medical professionals and young people interested in service.
2Those with no specific medical training will rotate through different areas, including taking vital signs, assisting in the pharmacy, counting out medications to be handed out, shadowing medical/dental providers.
3. They can also assist in the eye clinic if it is being offered that day. Those who speak Spanish can also help with registration and triage, getting the patient’s contact information, and help the Bible worker with spiritual outreach.
4.Groups working with GYC Peru will be participating in Vacation Bible School, health evangelism outreach, building projects, Bible studies, and evangelistic campaigns.

Where will I be staying and eating

All volunteers will stay at the dorm and duplex located at Kilometer 8 in Pucallpa. In the dorm there are bunk beds, with mattresses, sheets, and mosquito nets. Windows are barred and have a screen mesh over them to prevent the entry of mosquitoes and other insects.
There are flush toilets and showers available. One to two cooks will be employed to cook three wholesome vegetarian meals for all participants. If you have special food requirements, please communicate with us to see if that can be arranged.

What is the weather like?

The climate of Pucallpa is tropical, hot all year round, with a relatively dry season from June to August, the austral winter, when night temperatures also drop a little.

How much should I expect to pay for a mission trip with AMOR Projects?

$325.00 for Project Expenses Plus $70.00 for meals.
How to pay for the trip?
1.Airline tickets are paid directly to the airline of your choice.
2. Bring cash to cover any personal shopping you may want to do and to pay the cook–who will be going shopping to buy the food.
3. Project expenses will be tax deductible. A check to cover this can be mailed to AMOR Projects at PO Box 212 Loma Linda, Ca. 92354.

What kind of immunizations do I need?

Childhood immunizations:measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and TDaP (tetanus, diptheira, and pertussis) should be up to date. Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B are strongly recommended. We recommend that you have gotten a Yellow Fever and Typhoid vaccine. We HIGHLY advise any recommendations by your physician or travel clinic, and/or the CDC website that gives recommendations for travel to Peru:
We highly recommend taking precautions against mosquito bites by:.
1)Using clothes that have long sleeves and using long pants, especially after sunset,
2)Using insect repellents on exposed skin,
3) Sleeping under a mosquito net.

How do I get to where AMOR Projects is working?

AMOR Projects volunteers will fly into Lima and then will catch a domestic flight over the Andes mountains to Pucallpa, along the Ucayali River. You will be picked up at the airport and transported to the AMOR Projects campus at Kilometer 8.

What kind of connectivity will I have?

WiFi is provided while on campus. Phone: depending on your carrier and if you sign up for international plan service. If you don’t have an international plan, WhatsApp via WiFi will be available while on campus. Occasionally WiFi is not available when the electricity goes out.

What kind of electricity is used in Peru?

The electrical current is 220 Volts. Please make sure that your personal electronic equipment will operate also on 220 volts. Look on your device to see if it says “110-220 volts.” In addition to accommodating for the voltage difference, you will need to bring outlet adapters that will allow your device to be plugged in.
