54-year old Alicia has a very difficult life. She has to serve the roles of both mother and father to her youngest child, Sarita. One day a wound mysteriously appeared on Alicia’s foot. It slowly expanded in size and in discomfort, until Alicia began to fear that she would be unable to work any longer. This would be devastating because of having no support from the father of her children, and due to having to pay tuition for her children. As the days went by the pain became so unbearable that though she had been far from God, she desperately cried out, “Save me God!”
For eight painful years Alicia suffered from recurrent infections and was at the point of almost losing her foot. Her daughter, Sarita, dropped out of school so she could stay home and take care of her mother. She wanted so desperately to see her mother get well that she decided helping her as much as she could was worth sacrificing her academic future. When Sarita told us about her mother’s situation, the AMOR Projects medical missionary team rushed to her aid. When we found Alicia, she was crying in pain. When we began to examine and clean her wound, we discovered that it was secondary to severely unmanaged diabetes. Though she would have soon lost her foot if her situation didn’t improve, thanks to our timely visit and subsequent medical interventions, her foot was spared. Now her wound has fully healed and she hopes to soon open a new business so that Sarita will be able to study and make up for the lost years that she wasn’t in school.
